The baseball team finished their season winning nine of their last eleven games. They placed second in district rankings. On May 1st , Gleason hosted Trenton in the first round of tournament play, but took an unfortunate loss. The game scheduled for May 2nd was postponed until the next day due to weather conditions. The Bulldogs defeated Bradford in their next game to keep their postseason alive.
The softball team has also been doing well. In the first round of tournaments, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Lake County to pick up their first win. The second game was postponed due to weather until May 5, when they played at South Fulton .
On April 22nd , the softball field at Mike Snider Park was dedicated to the late Bro. Roy Auvenshine, due to his many contributions and great support for not only the softball team but all of Gleason's athletic programs.
The G-club held their annual picnic on April 29th, at Huggin's park. Students who participated in any sport and met their coach's requirements were allowed to go. Mr. Jimmy Vaughn grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for the students.
The Science Club field trip took place on April 30th. Members went to the Unimin Wildlife Habitat where students were divided into groups to visit different stations. Student activities included hikes along the nature trail and a hands-on lesson about reptiles, presented by a local biologist. Representatives from TWRA were on hand to explain wildlife data collection techniques, to show examples of different animals native to Tennessee and to give a canine search demonstration. Students were also treated to lunch of grilled hamburgers.
The Character Counts trip was on May 6. All students who attended had to meet certain attendance and good behavior requirements. Participating students traveled to watch the Diamond Jaxx baseball game in Jackson .
All library books are due May 9th.
Gateway testing is this week and final exams will be coming up soon.
